Recently New Dimension PhotoCraft has added laser-engraved glass photo etching to it's range. These products offered come in two sizes: 5" x 7" ($35), and 9" x 13" ($65). All buildings and vehicles are available to buy as glass etchings. Not all have been completed, however if you like any photo from my range produced in glass at the above prices please contact me. Similar pricing is also applied to have your own suitable photograph etched in glass (see services).

The glass used is 6mm thick, and is supplied to us pre-cut to size and shape (with curved corners) by an aquajet cutting system. This process leaves no sharp edges, and also leaves a "frosted" appearance to the cut edge.

The glass products can be supplied with a custom-made timber stand, for displaying the glass engraving upright (at a slight angle) on a flat surface. The stands are provided as an extra at $7.50 each. Below is an example of a large photo etching of the National Library of Australia, complate with stand. The side-on view shows the angle that the product is held by the timber stand.

Engraving in glass requires a particular technique when adjusting the photograph on the computer. The image needs to be retouched to show high contrast and edge detail, or the engraved image will appear as a "whitewash" on the glass.

The engraved image can also be coloured. Any single colour can be applied, and this allows the etching to be easily seen in any light, as the photo becomes semi-opaque. Below is an example of a laser engraved glass image that has been tinted blue.
